Marvin keeps close ties with Swarthmore, chairing the Steering Committee of Swarthmore Alumni in Finance.

Q&A with Marvin

Q: What would you never leave home without?
A: A pen, chapstick and a destination

Q: What's your favorite book/publication/blog/etc.?
A: Books: "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino, "The Wine of Youth" by John Fante; Publications: The Atlantic, The Economist: Blogs: The Big Picture by Barry Ritholtz (ritholtz.com), Cool Tools by Kevin Kelly (kk.org/cooltools), Arts & Letters Daily by the Chronicle of Higher Education (aldaily.com)

Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what's the one food you couldn't live without?
A: Cheeseburgers. The perfect cheeseburger is simple. No rare ingredients. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup and mustard. Sharp cheddar on a soft bun. Sometimes, I'll allow for an avocado. But, mushrooms, caviar, blue cheese or fig jam – these additions are made by people who don't like cheeseburgers. I, however, love cheeseburgers. And when tomatoes are perfect, in the fading days of summer, I can eat them every single day.

Q: Where have you traveled? Where do you dream of traveling?
A: I spend a lot of time driving, and I love New Orleans. I've always wanted to take a road trip from Paris to Mumbai, in an old sleeper truck with a friendly dog. Like "Travel With Charley", but overseas.
